DIY Body Cream Recipe with Essential Oils

DIY Body Cream Recipe with Essential Oils

When I first started making my own DIY creams at home, I found it hard to find a recipe I liked. I used to use Nivea Creme because it was nice and thick and promised to improve my skin…. What I learned however, was that the ingredients in it were far from nourishing or improving my skin, including:

Mineral Oil (Known to clog pores and reduce the skin’s ability to release toxins )

Paraffin (Used as preservatives but highly controversial as studies have shown traces of parabens in breast tumors)

Fragrance (The word “fragrance” or “parfum” on the product label represents an undisclosed mixture of various scent chemicals and ingredients used as fragrance dispersants such as diethyl phthalate. Fragrance mixes have been associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system)

Methylchloroisothiazolinone (A widely-used preservative; has been associated with allergic reactions)

Methylisothiazolinone (A widely-used preservative; has been associated with allergic reactions. Lab studies on the brain cells of mammals also suggest that methylisothiazolinone may be neurotoxic.)

EEK! That really freaks me out…. Especially when I realised that Methylisothiazolinone is often an ingredient in big brand baby wipes…

Anyway, long story short, I needed to work out a new cream recipe because I couldn’t unlearn what I’d just learned!

This recipe came about after many trials and errors. It’s very thick (like a body butter) and it truly does nurture and nourish you like no other DIY cream I’ve tried. I often make up a big batch, without essential oils, and then I remelt smaller batches, adding various oils depending on my need. (Feel free to ask questions about this as I absolutely love talking about essential oils and all they can do to support us!)
